Bottle Rocket #001 is the first printed design in the Swamp Origins checklist. It is Common, corresponding to Level I in the official rules. Here are its three catalog editions before any collecting commentary.
| Edition | Catalog cap | Exact card / edition reference | Store mapping |
|---|---|---|---|
| Base | 21,878 | Bottle Rocket #001 | Mapped Near Mint variant; check product availability |
| Foil | 2,352 | Bottle Rocket #001 | Mapped Near Mint variant; check product availability |
| Serialized | 99 | Bottle Rocket #001 | No mapped Serialized merchandise variant; correct product reference only |
Edition caps come from the official edition catalog, checked October 27, 2026. A mapped variant is a valid product selection, rather than evidence of current stock. The Serialized row references the correct product without pretending a numbered copy is listed.
Why #001 is a useful starting point
The first checklist number makes a convenient anchor for a binder or spreadsheet. A collector can put the design in the opening slot, then build the sequence around it. That organizational preference does not establish extra demand or a price premium. Printed number is part of identity, not a performance forecast.
The official How to Play guide uses this card as its Common / Level I example. That is helpful for learning terminology because rarity, Level and printed number can be read as separate fields. Common describes the rarity category; Level I determines its place in the upgrade system; 001 identifies the design within the set.
Choose a finish before comparing offers
The Base edition has a cap of 21,878, while Foil has 2,352 and Serialized has 99. Those are catalog maxima for three separate editions of the same design. They do not measure copies on the market or give the chance of finding a specific edition in a pack. A smaller denominator is a useful edition fact, but cannot by itself establish what a buyer should pay.
A Base-only checklist needs a Base copy. A Foil-only checklist needs Foil. A mixed-finish collection can accept either if that is the collector’s chosen definition. Recording the goal explicitly avoids counting an upgrade as a new design, or buying a second edition under the mistaken impression that it fills another printed-number slot.
A numbered copy needs additional evidence
The /99 figure describes the Serialized edition ceiling. It does not identify a specific copy as 1/99 or any other serial. Ask for the actual numbering and photographs before recording an individual serial in a collection ledger. A generic catalog image is not enough to prove a seller holds a particular numbered item.
For physical cards, compare front, back, edges and corners under useful lighting. For Foil, request an angle that helps reveal surface marks as well as the finish. Keep a condition description distinct from the official edition: Near Mint is merchandise condition, not another catalog category or a promised grading result.
A compact ownership record
Use one row per edition with fields for printed number, finish, condition, quantity, purchase date and storage location. Add a serial field only for a verified numbered copy. If you own two Base copies, record quantity two in that edition rather than marking two of the three finish boxes complete.
This approach makes the first card a useful model for the rest of the set. The same identity rules work at the end of the checklist, across all rarities and through later trades. Start with a clear record, then decide whether the first-number appeal belongs in your personal collection.
