The Team Rocket set, released in April 2000, brought a darker tone to the Pokémon TCG. It introduced the first-ever Dark Pokémon, a special type featuring alternate artwork and a more aggressive aesthetic. This 82-card expansion (plus a secret rare) marked the first time the game explored a villain-focused theme, drawing inspiration from the antagonists of the Pokémon video games and anime.
